Ask the mind: Mental Health ... Is and Isn't

Updated: Dec 1, 2021

Mental health... In many instances has been perceived as taboo. It's as if a wall is built as soon as someone brings up anything remotely related to mental health.

I'm about to break down why it shouldn't be a topic to avoid.

Here's the thing, mental health is important. It is as important as physical health. They simultaneously react to one another. Just like that, it's something everyone has, that is what makes us real. It makes us HUMAN.

There's this whole idea that it's weak to speak about how you're feeling, but, everyone we meet, the first thing we say is "how are you ?". It's not like we can just hit a switch and suddenly feel better and be fixed.

Why does it have to be something to be ashamed about? I feel sad. So sometimes things make me sad and that's okay. I'll live and I'll learn to overcome that part of life someday. For now, it's okay to be sad. Sometimes it automatically goes to the idea that mental health is difficult. Sometimes it is without a doubt. But there are also times that when you learn and grow, it's the best feeling knowing that you did your best. These things play the biggest role in our mental well-being. When we look back at it we've all come along and that is a part of being HUMAN.
